WHAT IS BARRE? - continued

Think pulsing in a squat to target the glutes and quads, cranking out as many triceps extensions as possible with 1kg weights, or moving through a lively plank sequence. In most of our barre classes, expect to be moving to upbeat music, unlike in pilates and yoga, where you will be mostly relying on breath cues. Expect to follow some choreography or rhythmic patterns, but on the side of simplicity so that everyone can follow along.

In addition to building strength, this full-body workout develops agility and flexibility. In some classes you’ll just use the barre and your body weight to push through rep after rep of combinations that will set your muscles on fire. In other classes you’ll incorporate tools such as resistance bands, ankle weights, free weights, exercise balls, and more.

Sections of classes are also paired with stretching to increase overall flexibility, so if you struggle with stiff joints and mobility, then barre is a great choice for you.
